Setup

The goal of the game is to collect as few points as possible by getting rid of all your cards. Getting rid of all your cards is called getting RUMMY. This is achieved by placing combinations of cards on the table.

Use a full standard deck without jokers. Deal cards based on the number of players:

  • 2 players: 10 cards each
  • 3–4 players: 7 cards each
  • 5–6 players: 6 cards each

The remaining cards are placed face-down as a draw pile. The top card is flipped over to start the discard pile.

Combinations

A combination is a series of at least 3 cards placed on the table. There are two types:

  • A group of three or four cards with the same rank. For example ♥️A ♠️A ♦️A
  • A sequence of three or more cards in numerical order of the same suit. For example ♣️3 ♣️4 ♣️5
Combinations

Gameplay

Start with the player to the left of the dealer. On their turn, a player must draw one card from either the draw pile or the discard pile. They may then lay down combinations of at least three matching cards or a sequence of three or more in the same suit. Cards can also be added to existing combinations, regardless of who laid them down. End the turn by discarding one card face-up to the discard pile.

If a player discards a card that could have been used in a table combination, the first player to shout RUMMY may take that card into their hand.

Ending the Round

The round ends when a player has played all their cards and ends their turn by discarding one final card. It is not allowed to end the game by playing your last card as part of a table combination.

Scoring

At the end of the round, players count the points for the cards remaining in their hand. Face cards are worth 10 points, Aces are worth 1 point, and number cards are worth their face value. The winner is the player who went out, and they score points based on the cards left in the other players’ hands. You can play multiple rounds, and the player with the highest total score at the end is the winner.
