Setup

The goal is to collect as few points as possible by getting rid of all your cards. Playing your last card is called going RUMMY. You do this by laying down combinations of cards on the table.

Use a full standard deck without jokers. Deal cards based on the number of players:

  • 2 players: 10 cards each
  • 3–4 players: 7 cards each
  • 5–6 players: 6 cards each

Place the remaining cards face-down as a draw pile. Flip the top card face-up to start the discard pile.

Combinations

A combination is a group of at least 3 cards laid on the table. There are two types:

  • Three or four cards of the same rank. For example ♥️A ♠️A ♦️A
  • Three or more cards in numerical order of the same suit. For example ♣️3 ♣️4 ♣️5

Gameplay

Play starts with the player to the left of the dealer. On their turn, a player draws one card from either the draw pile or the discard pile. They may then lay down combinations of at least three matching cards, or a sequence of three or more cards in the same suit. Cards can also be added to combinations already on the table, regardless of who laid them down. End the turn by discarding one card face-up to the discard pile.

If a player discards a card that could have been added to a combination on the table, the first player to shout RUMMY may take that card into their hand.

Ending the Round

The round ends when a player has played all their cards and ends their turn by discarding one final card. You cannot end the game by playing your last card as part of a table combination.

Scoring

When a player goes out, they score points based on the cards still in the other players' hands. Card values are:

  • Face cards (K, Q, J): 10 points each
  • Aces: 1 point each
  • Number cards (2–10): Face value

The player who went out collects the total value of all remaining cards held by the other players. Play continues over multiple rounds, and the player with the highest cumulative score at the end wins. A common target is 500 points.
